Testimonial: Milcobel

“The simple assembly, the strong price-quality relation, the available food certificates, the expertise of the manufacturer and the geographical location in relation to the factory make these pumps a complete success story for us."

Dimitri Lecluse, Technical Responsible utilities and water purification Milcobel

Milcobel, the cooperative of dairy farms

Milcobel collects, processes and commercializes milk from 2800 dairy farms. These dairy farmers are not only suppliers, but also shareholders in this cooperative venture.

The main activity of Milcobel is the processing of raw milk into finished milk for the consumer under different labels.
In addition, they produce large quantities of powder from milk and whey, mainly intended for export in their departments in Kallo and Langemark. They are also known for their Bruges cheeses (Moorslede) and a mozzarella and ice cream factory (Ysco) at the site of Langemark.

Packo pumps throughout the whole organization

Throughout the different sites, various Packo pumps are used in the most diverse applications - both hygienic and industrial.
These applications include evaporation, CIP, pasteurization, food pumps, city water supply, brine circulation, cooling pumps and many others.

The icing on the cake within this group is the complete standardization of the pump range in the Milcobel cheese factory in Moorslede.

Water purification using Dissolved Air Flotation

We zoom in on the water purification at Milcobel for this case. In order to purify their waste water, they use Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF).

What is DAF?

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is a water treatment process that purifies waste water (or other types of water) by removing suspended matter such as oil, grease or solids. The removal is achieved by dissolving air under pressure in the added water, recycled water or directly into the waste water. After this, this air is released at atmospheric pressure in a flotation tank or basin.
The air forms small bubbles that adhere to the suspended matter, causing the suspended material to start to float to the surface of the water. This floating layer can then be removed with a rotating skimming scraper. (Wikipedia, n.d.).

Packo and DAF units

For the processing of the waste water from the various processes on the site, there was a need for reliable water treatment, in which a flotation unit was provided at the same time. This unit was equipped with ICP2 Packo pumps for recirculation and MCP2 pumps as feed for the flotation.

Our pumps are mainly known for their hygienic quality. This is no different for our industrial stainless steel pumps. The choice of our pumps is therefore not always an obvious choice for waste water treatment.
But due to its design in stainless steel 316L in combination with electrolytic polishing as standard surface treatment, this pump offers the ultimate protection against these heavily demanding applications. In addition to material resistance, the large free passages, internal flushing of the seal chamber and full compliance with the MEI standards are all elements that make these pumps even more reliable for this application.
