A leading chemical manufacturer required a refurbishment of their tank farm and pumping system. The project scope required both the tanks, pipework and pumping solution to transfer process chemicals from the external tanks in to the beginning of the manufacturing process.

Verder were approached to provide the pumps and pipe work system, working in conjunction with the tank contractor.  A bank of Verderair diaphragm pumps were selected to handle the chemical transfer of the chemical from the tanks. The site itself was an ATEX-rated zone and this pumping solution immediately removed any risk of voltage. The Verderair range is available in a range of materials for chemical compatibility and often the same pump can handle multiple chemical types. This provided the flexibility to the manufacturer that was required in a changing marketplace.

The chemicals were then transferred into the process itself by centrifugal mag drive pumps. These pumps were specified due to their design providing exceptional benefits when handling aggressive chemicals. Mag drive pumps do not have mechanical seals and therefore do not permit leaks through the abrasive wear of seal faces. Using a static o-ring allows the casing to contain the fluid from the environment indefintiely.

The pumps themselves were lined with ETFE material, which is compatible with most industrial chemicals and provided the flexibility for handling multiple chemical types. Both of these pump types gave peace of mind to the engineering manager, who now has a pumping solution which is safe around his staff and equipment.
