Verder Celebrates a Decade Long Partnership with Smart Storm

Smart Storm Ltd is a leading international wastewater instrumentation manufacturer and solutions provider formed in 1993 and has been a key player in developing many award-winning products for the water and wastewater industries. In 2011 Smart Storm embarked on a project of redesigning their previous wastewater sampler to create a new state-of-the-art product that is able to meet the demands of harsh industrial environments.

The new sampler, known as the Hydrocell is designed to collect composite samples of trade effluent discharges in industrial applications. During the process of developing their Hydrocell Sampler, they found a new partnership with Verder. The sampler was unique because it used thermoelectric cooling rather than compressor cooling. It has a SMART microprocessor-controlled filling arm that always positions correctly over the bottles, a graphical touch screen display and can operate in pressurised pipes up to 2 bar without additional isolation valves.

The expanded Hydrocell range uses the Verderflex R3DC OEM peristaltic pump. This pump although small in size, is capable of a vertical lift capacity of 9m, which far exceeds that of other manufacturers pumps, and also exceeds the specified 7m lift required by Smart Storm for the device. It can accommodate various flowrate and speed requirements meaning it performs to a higher standard than the old sampler pump. The pump is also extremely reliable and robust, so less time and money are spent sending engineers to sites to fix problems. They needed a compact, easy-to-maintain pump which could combine the required performance with reliability and accuracy. Smart Storm uses this pump across their complete sampler range, so continuously producing a high-quality product is paramount.

Since the initial introduction of the Hydrocell sampler, the range has now grown to include 4 products which range from single bottle samplers to multi-bottle refrigerated units, including a new solar powered eco-friendly unit, all of which use the Verderflex pump. The company has also expanded to include new head offices in North Wales and a division in Halifax, Yorkshire. Dr Duffy is passionate about the region and contributing to the North Wales economy, creating high quality jobs, and developing research programmes with Bangor University. Already, Smart Storm has established a research programme with the Electronics Department at the University. Even though the product portfolio has increased, and new units have been introduced, Verder are still the supplier of choice. This is due to our reliability and being capable of performing to continuous high standards in harsh industrial conditions. Smart Storm have been using our pumps for over a decade and have not had one break down.

Now celebrating 10 years of partnership with Verder, Dr Duffy, owner and founder of Smart Storm said: “We now export samplers all over the world and the reliability and robustness of the Verderflex pump is a significant contributary factor to our success.” It is clear that Verder and Smart Storm have established a long-lasting successful relationship, and one that will only grow as both companies continue to expand and innovate.
